Ojibway (First Nation's Tribe from Ontario/U.S.A)

Thank you very much Mrs. Johnston-Jones for coming in and sharing all your wonderful First Nations stories.  Today was our second day that Mrs. Johnston-Jones has come in.  We had our own prompt to Paw Wow and here is the link to see a real dancing.  We learned how the young warriors are the grass dancers and the women are held in high regard.  Woman ragalia's have gingles as they sound like rain and is to represent healing.  The drum beat is symbolizing the heart beat... we had a great time dancing and eating the yummy Bannock Mrs. Johnston-Jones made and brought in :)

Bannock Recipe: (Shared by Josh's Family)

3 cups of flour
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp baking powder
1/4 cup margarine
1 1/2 cups of water

In a large bowl mix first three ingredients.  Cut in margarine to flour mixture until granular.  Add water. Stir with fork.  Mix till dough forms a ball.  Turn onto flour surface and knead about 10 times.  Pat into circle till about 3/4 to an inch thick and place on greased baking sheet.  Bake 350 *F for 25 to 30 minutes.

Animal Rescuers!

We learned so many things about taking care of rescued animals!  With the money that was collected we were able to help four animals at the Wildlife Rescue Center!  We should all be so proud how we have helped our animal community!

Here are the animals Div. 18 were able to help take care of:

We learned what happens to the animals when they go to the Wildlife Center:

              2. Animals are fed to make them strong and given medicine if they need it...

Then off to the park to look for animal signs and we saw lots....

If your family would like to Foster more animals check out their website and see what animals you can choose from...

Planter Boxes!

Wow, have you seen our new class planter boxes?  Thank you to Jim and Jack from Maintenance Dept. at SD42!  They were so wonderful when I called them for help.  I asked if they would have any spare materials and be able to help us make some planters.  Jim came the next day to check out our class projects and measurements.  He asked me to write a proposal and then I waited to hear.  Well on Thursday before the long weekend they were dropped off!  Can you believe they made them both out of spare material!!!!   Thank you Guys, they are soooo beautiful and many kids in class for years to come will enjoy growing food and flowers!

Another big thank you goes out to Ms. Watts and Mrs. Faulkner for supplying us with potting soil for our planters.  Now we just need to decide what to plant.

I'm hoping that we have some creative parents to help us put our name or decorate our boxes a bit :)  Let me know if you have any ideas!

Ms. Meedin We Miss You!

Congratulations Ms. Meedin on finishing your 405 practicum with flying colours!  We miss you and the kids have been asking when you are coming back!  We love that you promised to come back on days you are not in class or working at the pool.  Here are some photos of Ms. Meedin's celebration party!
