Annual Bike Rodeo

Thank you Cst. Jeffery and Cst. Steve for coming out to our Annual Grade One Rodeo!  I learn something new each year they come.

Did you know...

-In Maple Ridge you are allowed to ride on the sidewalks to encourage families to ride.
-You must wear a helmet.
-You must have reflective areas.
-You must have a bell or horn. (That was a new one for me this year)

The rain held off and we had a great time having the whole field to ourselves!

Measurement At The Park!

One of my favourite Math book is called Actual Size!  I know it is hard to believe I have a favourite book and all.  The wonderful thing about this book is their pictures are the actual size they would be in the real world.  How cool is that!!!

Here is the actual size of the largest crocodiles...
Here is how tall an Alaskan Brown Bear is...
Then when we were at the park we used some of the Actual Size measurements to measure things in our listening spots and on "The Hill"

The day before when I visited the Environmental school we used some of the same measurements there too.

Using the largest stick bug to measure the tree...

How many stick bugs would this tree be?

Look the Goliath Worm circles around the whole tree...
We also used the Elephant foot and the Gorilla hand to measure things with.

Here are some other cool discoveries we had...
Monkey came along to the park!

Enjoying his listening spot.

Quiet listening.

It looked like it was snowing with all the cotton falling...

Snow Cotton

Discovering spit bugs and their hiding spots.

Making a forest gate.

Look how ripe the Salmon Berries are!

Finding out slugs are not so scary after all.

But they sure are stickyyyyy!

Feeling how slow they move!

Counting their eyes!  Did you know they have 10, 000 teeth??? It's true!

Finding out they are hard to turn upside down!

Setting it free...

Thank you Jack!

We had a surprise visit from Jack!  The man behind the fabulous handy work with our planters!!!

Thank you Jack for making our learning environment such a wonderful place to learn!

Jack joined us for a fun photo.  He was so surprised to see how much our plants had grown!
We were not going to let whoever broke our planter to ruin our gardens!  Today we replanted them and the bulbs seem to be ok!
